On December 16–17, 2024, the University of “Hasan Prishtina” in Prishtina, Kosova, hosted the annual NanoAlb-NANOBALKAN Workshop, supported by EU-funded projects SUSNANO and NANOKOS. The event gathered regional and international researchers to share achievements and foster collaboration in nanoscience.
Day one of the event focused on the outcomes of the 6th NanoAlb Ignite Projects (2024–2026), supported by the Academy of Sciences of Albania. Presentations highlighted contributions from regional and international partners, fostering discussions on expanding collaboration with other projects to maximize benefits.
Day two featured the Quartz Forum under the theme “Redefining Tomorrow Through Nano Innovation, with a special emphasis on young researchers addressing global challenges through advancements in nanoscience.
Participants explored cutting-edge projects in the STEM Lab at the Faculty of Education, Prishtina, and a newly equipped laboratory established by NANOKOS. The workshop also spotlighted the AWIN network, promoting women’s leadership in nanotechnology.
The workshops included presentations from Acad. Arben Merkoçi, Director of NanoAlb and ICREA Research Professor and Group Leader of SUSNANO project partner ICN2, and Prof. Dr. Majlinda Vasjari, SUSNANO project coordinator, who delivered a presentation on nanobiosensors for pesticide residues in agriculture / food industries.
A significant topic of discussion was the development of NANOBALKAN as a Regional Centre for Nanoscience.
This workshop reinforced the importance of regional collaboration in advancing nanotechnology for sustainable development. For more information, visit www.nanoalb.al
