SUSNANO Project Promotes Scientific Research in Secondary Schools Across Albania

As part of the EU-funded SUSNANO project, a series of visits were made to secondary schools in early May 2024 to promote the importance of scientific research. The outreach initiative targeted schools in Tirana, including "Ismail Qemali" and "Qemal Stafa", as well as institutions in Durres ("Gjergj Kastrioti"), Fier ("Janaq Kilica"), and Korce ("Raqi Qirinxhi"). Additional visits were made to "H. Mahmud Dashi" Gymnasium in Tirana, "Liria" Gymnasium in Elbasan, "Nefail Rozani" Gymnasium in Korce, "Gjergj Pekmezi" Gymnasium in Pogradec, and "Kings Tirana, International High School". Over 500 students attended these sessions.

The meetings provided a platform for engaging discussions on the significance of scientific research, particularly in the fields of natural sciences, nanoscience, and nanotechnology. The discussions focused on several key topics:

  • The need to enhance students’ capacity to keep pace with the latest developments in scientific research.

  • Encouraging students to pursue studies in nanoscience and nanotechnology.

  • Highlighting the benefits of engaging in research, such as building a successful career through collaborations, joint publications, and participation in conferences.

  • Opportunities for students to advance their careers through research projects funded by state and university budgets, as well as European grants.

Students were also invited to visit the scientific laboratories at the University of Tirana, where the SUSNANO project is being implemented, to further inspire interest in research.
